Trochanteric Bursitis (Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome) | Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment Trochanteric Bursitis (also known as Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome) is a relatively common condition that affects the lateral (on the side of the) hip, leading to pain on the lateral hip that may radiate down the lateral thigh. Trochanteric Bursitis can be caused by a variety of factors that cause damage or injury to the lateral thigh (at the site of the greater trochanter of the femur), including activities like walking and running. In this lesson, we discuss these causes in more detail, including the pathophysiology of this condition, the particular signs and symptoms, how it’s diagnosed and how it’s treated.
