CS Kalksburg Viena: Innovador Oasis de demencia y Atención Centrada en la Persona

On the geriatric care trip to Vienna organized by inforesidencias, we visited the CS Kalksburg center, a leading European center for senior care, which opened in 2023. This modern center has capacity for 152 people and combines long-term residential care, a specialized dementia unit, and a day center. Its approach is distinguished by the concept of a “care oasis,” where architecture, nature, and sensory design are integrated to create an environment that fosters well-being, privacy, and community life. During the visit, we explored its person-centered care model, with adapted routines, therapeutic gardens, and strong support for families. All of this makes the center a true living space, where dignity, autonomy, and social connection are balanced. One of the most inspiring elements is the dementia oasis, a unit for 12 people who are bedridden or can no longer communicate verbally, but who share a common area where they can “see” each other. A visit that invites reflection on the future of dementia care and the role of environments in quality of life.
