Its twenty-three tracks move through proto-electro, old-school electro, electro-funk, Detroit techno bass, machine funk, breakdance rhythms, street electro, robotic funk, and forms. Four remixes conclude the volume, carrying its sounds into darker, more submerged territory. Electro emerged from an exchange between European electronic experimentation and African American rhythmic traditions. Kraftwerk offered a model of machine music, but artists and DJs in New York, Detroit, Los Angeles, Dayton, Miami, and elsewhere transformed that vocabulary through funk, hip-hop, turntablism, dance-floor competition, and imagination. The result was never merely cold or mechanical. Electro gave machines swing, humor, menace, physical force, and personality. Drum machines supplied booming kicks, dry snares, metallic handclaps, and percussion patterns. Monophonic synthesizers produced bass lines that crawled, pulsed, or struck with architectural weight. Vocoders placed the human voice between body and circuit. Electro’s identity depended on placement: every beat, silence, accent, and interruption mattered. The research behind this volume changed my relationship to the music. Repeated listening to original recordings, especially the submerged rhythms, speculative mythology, and austere machine-funk associated with Drexciyan electro, turned study into love. What began as an effort to understand the genre became a fascination with its narrative imagination and its ability to make electronic rhythm feel like a hidden world. Electro Vol. 1 is a labor of love created through human direction, artificial intelligence, research, close listening, selection, and revision. These are not recovered recordings or lost masters, but speculative works from an imagined archive. Lorephonic treats genre not as a costume but as an inheritance, honoring electro’s precision, physicality, strangeness, and futurism while acknowledging that the original records remain the source. The future listens. ‪@Lorephonic‬ #electronicmusic #2hoursofmusic #musicforstudying #oldschool #lorephonic
