Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies Ingredients: 3 cups sifted all purpose flour 1 cup sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup soft butter or margarine 1 egg, slightly beaten 3 tablespoons cream 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Instructions: Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees F. Yield: 72 to 84 cookies Sift flour with sugar, baking powder and salt into mixing bowl. Cut in butter, using an electric mixer or pastry blender, until particles are fine. Add egg, cream and vanilla extract. Blend thoroughly. If desired, chill dough for easier handling. Roll out on floured surface, one-third at a time, to 1/8th inch thickness. Sprinkle with sugar; cut into desired shapes. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 5 to 8 minutes, until golden. tip: 1/2 cup shortening may be substituted for 1/2 cup butter.
