"Ik ga daar GEEN uitspraak over doen!": Marina Eckenhausen. IGJ handhaafde NIET op bezoekverbod!

Dear directors of healthcare institutions during the devastating corona period, the visiting ban measure during the corona period. You complied with it. You were afraid of the IGJ enforcing violations of this measure, but now it appears from this excerpt from the Inspector General of the IGJ, Marina Eckenhausen, that you could have acted according to your own judgment! I am angry. For all those people who could no longer visit their family or friends in care homes, those people with intellectual disabilities who were not allowed outside, the fences that were put around the buildings. I am furious at the arrogant government that, with this measure, decreed that certain groups in society suddenly no longer had any say over themselves, without any legal countermeasure in place. I am angry again, just like back then, about the large group of people who simply followed. Where was the line of compliance? If the government had said: "Finish off all people with intellectual disabilities in advance!" you surely would have done that too?!? No? Of course not? You really went too far. You were already on that path. First of all; the moment this happened, you, as administrators, should have stood up and collectively stated that this was a degrading measure, and that you were absolutely not going to comply with it. You were weak enough to blindly follow the measure. Afraid for your own safety, perhaps afraid of deaths, but most certainly also afraid of the IGJ that you would receive a fine. Secondly: okay, the measure is a fact, but you are looking to see if a loophole can be found here and there. If you do things in healthcare together with the clients, always in consultation with the people involved, then surely you could have agreed on how to deal with this measure *properly*, so that it was acceptable to everyone. You could have stuck your head above the parapet and said: we are going to do things differently! Now it appears from this excerpt that you could indeed have acted according to your own judgment. As long as you had documented it, as long as you could justify it. I am sure you are bewildered, for if only you had known this! But now it is too late. You should have acted then in the interest of your patient and client, because you should never, ever have followed this. Blind obedience leads (in this case with a long 'i') to a restriction of freedom! I hope you have been shaken awake! That you will be vigilant for the future.
