In this video, we explain how our 100% hydrogen-capable direct reduction (DR) plant with two melters works and how it will revolutionize the steel industry. With a production capacity of 2.5 million tons of directly reduced iron (DRI) per year, it is the first plant combination of its kind worldwide with this technological design. Using this new technology, we will produce pig iron using hydrogen instead of carbon in a blast furnace. This will allow us to save up to 3.5 million tons of CO2 annually in steel production right from the start. This corresponds to approximately 2% of emissions in North Rhine-Westphalia. Our goal is to produce climate-neutral steel by 2045 at the latest.
