3,200km Solo Adventure: Conquering Lesotho's Highest Passes! KTM690 Rally

🌍 3,200km Solo Adventure: Conquering the Highest Passes of South Africa & Lesotho! 🏍️💨 10 Days. One Bike. No Backup. From -12°C frozen peaks to +35°C coastal heat. Welcome to the ultimate solo adventure across some of the most rugged, breathtaking, and unforgiving terrain in Southern Africa. For this trip, I jumped on my KTM 690 Rally with a clear mission: hunt down and conquer the highest mountain passes in South Africa and the Kingdom of Lesotho. Over 10 intense days, I covered 3,200 kilometers and burned through 150 liters of fuel, pushing both myself and the machine to the absolute limit. The environmental contrast on this trip was mind-blowing. I was hit by a brutal -12°C in the high-altitude peaks of Lesotho—waking up to overnight snow, navigating slick black ice around frozen waterfalls, and fighting through freezing river crossings—only to drop down to a blistering +35°C as the route swept along the Durban coast. When you're out here completely solo, there is zero room for error—just pure adrenaline, technical riding, and unmatched scenery. If you love raw dual-sport adventure, hard-earned views, and testing the limits of a 690, smash that Like button, Subscribe for more epic rides, and drop a comment below letting me know which of these passes is on your bucket list! 🗺️ THE CHRONOLOGICAL ROUTE & PASSES, the 3,200km loop unfolded in a brutal but beautiful sequence: Hogsback: Climbing from the coast into the misty, steep forest passes of the Amathole Mountains. The Transkei Interior: Navigating the rugged dirt tracks, deep river valleys, and rolling hills of the Eastern Cape hinterland. The Highlands of Barkly East & Rhodes: Facing technical gravel and massive elevation gains as I tackled the legendary Naude’s Nek Pass—one of the highest dirt tracks in South Africa—along with the iconic, winding passes surrounding the historic mountain town of Rhodes. Sani Pass: The ultimate gateway into the Kingdom. A relentless, rock-strewn climb up the iconic switchbacks of the Drakensberg escarpment, transitioning from South Africa into Lesotho. The Lesotho Highlands (The Frozen Zone): Surviving the roof of Africa at -12°C. This section was defined by overnight snow, black ice, frozen waterfalls, and high-altitude river crossings. Afriski Mountain Resort: Pushing through the high-altitude ski fields of northern Lesotho before taking the steep, technical descent out of the northern gates back into South Africa. Golden Gate Highlands: Sweeping through the Free State border area, surrounded by the towering, sun-drenched, burnt-orange sandstone cliffs of Golden Gate. The Natal Descent & Durban Coast: Dropping off the escarpment into the lush foothills of KwaZulu-Natal, tracking south to hit the intense +35°C heat of the Durban coast, before locking into the final long-haul endurance burn back down the coastline to complete the loop. 📊 THE TRIP BY THE NUMBERS: Distance: 3,200 km Duration: 10 Days Fuel Consumed: 150 Liters Temperature Range: -12°C to +35°C Bike: KTM 690 Rally Rider: 100% Solo 📱 FOLLOW FOR MORE ADVENTURES: Instagram: @ryantravel360 #KTM690 #Lesotho #SouthAfrica #SaniPass #NaudesNek #Rhodes #BarklyEast #Afriski #Transkei #Hogsback #GoldenGate #Durban #AdventureMotorcycling #SoloRider #KTM690Rally #DualSport #MountainPasses #MotorcycleAdventure #OffroadRiding #IceRiding #MotoVlog #Overland#KTM690Rally #LesothoHighlands #SouthAfricaTravel #SaniPass #NaudesNek #RhodesSA #Afriski #Transkei #Hogsback #GoldenGateHighlands #SoloMotorcycle #AdventureMotorcycling #DualSportLife #OffroadRiding #MotoVlog
