World Patient Safety Day - 2019

On Friday the 24th May 2019, at its 72nd Assembly, World Health Organization (WHO) comprising of 194 member states, had endorsed the establishment of a “World Patient Safety Day” on the 17th of September, every year. As a part of WHO’s pursuit of Universal Health Coverage, Patient safety is of utmost importance. The World Patient Safety Day (WPSD) is a sustained collective campaign by all stakeholders with a goal to augment the health care system and thereby enhance patient safety. WPSD this year is the beginning of a long term initiative to spread global awareness on patient safety. Patient safety shall be ensured by adopting measures to reduce avoidable patient harm, raising awareness in care settings as well as among public on key issues, experimenting new ideas that can assure patient safety and by helping patients to be aware of their own safety.
