Kunal Pathri Mata Mandir || Dharamshala || Shaktipeeth

This temple in the lap of Dhauladhar mountains is an ancient temple which is believed to cure cancer, kidney stones & many more diseases if you drink the holy water inside it on regular basis. The legend goes back to the ancient time when Goddess " SATI " ( incarnation of Goddess Parvati or Goddess Adi Shakti ) fell in love with " MAHADEV " (Lord Shiva) and wanted to marry him. She was the first wife of lord Shiva & lived with him in the Himalayas. Sati was the daughter of DAKSH PRAJAPATI who according to the Puranic scriptures is the son of God BRAHMA and was considered to be a god of rituals himself. After marriage of her daughter with Lord Shiva he was not much impressed as he didn't want this marriage to happen, so he conducted a Yagna ( Yagya or fire-sacrifice ) which back then was considered to be one of the most auspicious Yajna of that time known as " Ashvamedha Yagya " . He invited all the gods, deities & sages but didn't invite her daughter's husband Lord Shiva. Learning about this his daughter devi Sati was furious and came to confront her father to which he responded with anger. For this disrespect of her husband devi Sati became furious and with the fire of anger burning inside of her, she burnt herself in the fire of the Yagna. When Lord Shiva came to know about this he was very disheartened and couldn't believed what has happened. Heartbroken he takes the body of devi Sati and puts it on his shoulder and wanders around the Himalayas & neighboring places. When other deities came to know about this they felt very bad & helpless, so they requested Lord Vishnu to do something about it. So Lord Vishnu took his Sudarshan Chakra and threw it in the direction of Lord Shiva which dismembered the body of devi Sati & the jewelry on her into different parts. The places where all the parts fell on the earth were made to be "Shakti Peeth" and in total there are 51 of them (according to different Puranas the no. of Shaktipeeth differs). The place where where the skull was found was named Kapaleshwari Devi Temple or Kunal Pathri Mata Mandir which is located in Dharamshala. There is a kund inside the temple which is in the shape of the skull of devi Sati and is always filled with Holy water. It is believed that consuming this water on regular basis can cure cancer, stones and many other diseases & also brings good luck. At any time when the level of the holy water is on the decline, miraculously it starts to rain and the water level increases. This temple is located at a distance of 3 kms from Dharamshala bus top and 10 kms from Gaggal/Kangra Airport. You can easily get a cab or even a bus(limited) to reach this places or you can take a walk through the beautiful tea gardens & reach this magical temple.
