I am so grateful Antoine Fuqua, the director, for bringing this movie to life because it has lit a new fire in me and has caused me to reexamine the life and legacy of Michael Jackson. I probably would've gotten this video out earlier if I wasn't watching so many of his interviews lmao. Seeing Michael Jackson's creative process, and his connection to God and his purpose helped me to feel validated as a creative. In this biopic, which covers his life from 1968 in Gary, Indiana, with his brothers, The Jackson 5, to the release and touring of 'Bad' in 1988, Jaafar Jackson, Michael's own nephew and son of Jermaine Jackson, portrays the King of Pop and he does a spectacular job. This is an astounding breakout performance, Oscar worthy FOR SURE! Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Larenz Tate as Berry Gordy, Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe, Liv Symone as Gladys Knight, Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones, Miles Teller as John Branca, Deon Cole as Don King, Jessica Sula as La Toya Jackson, amongst others, make for an all star cast. The Michael Biopic has been subject to EXTREME criticism (MJ INNOCENT) and it definitely has its flaws as I do wish we could've seen Janet Jackson and more of the Motown family like Diana Ross and The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Lionel Richie and The Commodores, etc. it would've been nice to get more insight into how the songwriters, musicians, and artists, many already legends themselves, at Motown shaped Michael Jackson, and his brothers, as musicians, artists, and men.
