Barkas B1000 & Wartburg 353W von der Volkspolizei der DDR. Vorgestellt und mitgefahren im Interview.

Denis and his wife Janet Frank show us how the People's Police worked back then and what tools they used for it. The two are passionate collectors and have specialized in the technology of the VoPo, as the People's Police is also called. They are so fond of detail that they not "only" move the cars in their original condition, but also everything around them, such as the uniform, which is of course also original. All the equipment in the police cars is largely original and functional. So it is even possible to use the radios. We were able to ride in the Barkas B1000 and the Wartburg 353W and ask a few questions. Both cars have already served as film cars after reunification and still cause a lot of attention today when they appear at classic car meetings or other events. Every now and then the two are called to weddings or farewells with their cars and help out there. In full gear, Denis and his wife Janet look like they used to be part of the street scene, which of course also confuses some citizens, as Janet can tell us: They were once on Eisenbahnstrasse in Leipzig, and an older couple came and asked the two to take care of law and order and they also had an office there. When the attempt then followed to explain that they had practically ceased to exist for more than 30 years, this was simply ignored and they should kindly intervene now. Of course, the appearance of the two with their People's Police cars is not always welcome, so it happened and happens from time to time that they are also insulted and asked what the nonsense is about. Then they explain to them that it's really all about the story and they don't have any political agenda.
