This Might Be The Ultimate Homebrew Computer!
What happens when a computer dies in 1984... and someone decides to continue developing it anyway? In this video I take a look at the Aquarius+, a modern reimagining of Mattel's forgotten Aquarius home computer. Created by Sean Harrington and the Aquarius+ team, this Z80-based machine keeps compatibility with the original Aquarius while adding features that would have seemed impossible back in the early 1980s. With VGA graphics, SD card storage, WiFi, Bluetooth controller support, expanded memory, improved sound, and modern development tools, the Aquarius+ feels like an alternate timeline where Mattel never walked away from the platform. I went into this video knowing very little about the system and approached it from the perspective of someone discovering it for the first time. We explore the hardware, poke around CP/M, test some sound capabilities, and see what this fascinating homebrew computer can actually do. If you're a fan of retro computing, Z80 systems, homebrew hardware, or obscure computers from the golden age of personal computing, you're going to want to see this.
