In today’s video I’m exploring one of the most underrated places to eat in Richmond, Canada — the Yaohan Centre Food Court in Richmond, BC. If you love finding cheap eats, authentic Chinese food, and big portion meals in Richmond near Vancouver, this place is definitely a hidden gem you need to know about! Yaohan Centre has a long reputation among locals for having some of the best affordable Asian food in Richmond BC. The food court is packed with small stalls serving everything from claypot rice, spicy noodle soups, Cantonese comfort food, and refreshing fruit drinks. One of the best things about this food court is that you can try multiple different dishes at very reasonable prices, and the portions are surprisingly large. My first stop is at the busiest stall in the entire food court — AJEA Noodles. This place always has a line and it’s easy to see why. One of the coolest things about this stall is that they cook their claypot rice dishes fresh on the spot, and you can actually watch all the claypots cooking on burners right in front of you. Seeing the pots sizzling while the rice cooks with the toppings makes the experience even better. Here I order the Chicken and Chinese Sausage Claypot Rice. The rice cooks inside the claypot and absorbs all the flavor from the chicken and the Chinese sausage. The result is a really fragrant and comforting dish with crispy bits of rice on the bottom and rich savory flavor throughout. It’s one of those classic dishes that really shows why claypot cooking is so popular in Chinese cuisine. Next, I decide to try something with a lot more heat — the Sichuan Spicy Beef Noodles with Potato Noodles. This dish is packed with bold flavor. The broth is spicy, tangy, slightly sour, and incredibly rich, with tender slices of beef and chewy potato noodles that soak up all that amazing broth. If you love Sichuan style noodles or spicy Chinese soups, this dish is definitely worth trying. The spice level really wakes up your taste buds! After enjoying the noodles, I continue my food court tour and head over to Chun Hing Cuisine, another popular stall known for serving classic Cantonese style comfort food and Chinese combo plates. This type of stall is very common in Asian food courts because it lets you try a variety of dishes all on one plate. Here I order their 3 items with rice and noodles combo meal for $17, which is an amazing deal considering the amount of food you get. The plate is loaded with different Chinese pre-made dishes, giving you a taste of traditional everyday meals that many people enjoy at home or at casual restaurants. Meals like this are perfect when you want a filling and affordable meal in Richmond BC. To finish the food tour, I stop by one of the drink stalls in the food court and order a Mango Lover drink for $8. This refreshing mango drink is sweet, fruity, and the perfect way to cool down after eating spicy noodles and hot claypot rice. It’s always nice to end a food adventure with something refreshing.
