Beginners, Elevate Your Watercolor Florals: Top Tips for Gorgeous Results 🌸🎨
In this video, I will share some tips that helped me with the water control wet-in-wet technique I use predominantly for my florals. I am sharing a painting I previously painted and going back in to create some interest. When you master your water control, you will feel more confident in your paintings and painting with this magical medium. The pulling and pushing technique is precisely what it sounds like, wet paint on dry paper, then pulling and pushing that paint to create shadows and details yet still with a softer edge. This can also be used to soften any hard edges you might want, because watercolor has a lot of soft edges. I am also helping the paint to blend by “pulling” the paint specifically in the petal I dab or dot in the Quin Magenta paint and then go back with a dryer brush with less water and help pull the paint into the lighter layer of Quin Magenta petal with the tip of my brush. This creates so much depth, interest and skill into your paintings. Wet on wet offers soft edges, beautiful color mixes, and wonderful surprises. Wet on dry will offer you much more control, hard edges, and details. Having a good grasp of these techniques will give your paintings a lot more variety! Play with these techniques, and practice them repeatedly until you get a feel for wet on wet. Remember, when I lay down a layer of paint, I use half water, half color; the paint should shine with no puddles. I use the wet on wet for my flower petals and leaves, dotting in browns, burnt umber and burnt sienna around the edge to create interest. I also will dab in a dark hue in the middle of my flowers while the petals are still wet; this gives a fun and interesting effect. Happy Painting, and most of all, Enjoy!
