In this video, you'll learn the traditional nomenclature of oxides. Traditional nomenclature uses prefixes (hypo, per) and suffixes (oso, ico) to indicate whether an element forms an oxide with its lowest or highest oxidation state. If the element only has one oxidation state, it is called an oxide, followed by the root of the element's name and ending in ico.
