Battle of the Bulge: When the Most Powerful German Tanks Force… Walked Home
In December 1944, SS officer Joachim Peiper led the most powerful German armored spearhead of the Battle of the Bulge. Eight days later, he abandoned his tanks and walked out of the Ardennes on foot. This is the story of Kampfgruppe Peiper — the elite armored force that pushed deeper into Allied territory than any other German unit during Hitler’s Ardennes Offensive. With Panthers and King Tigers at the tip of the spear, Peiper’s column was supposed to reach the Meuse River and open the road to Antwerp. Instead, his advance was slowed by impossible roads, blown bridges, and a desperate fuel shortage. Cut off near La Gleize, Peiper was forced to abandon over a hundred armored vehicles — including rare King Tiger tanks — before escaping on foot through the frozen forests of Belgium. In one small village, Germany lost some of its most valuable armored vehicles of the entire war. This video tells the full story of Kampfgruppe Peiper's advance, the Malmedy Massacre, the fuel crisis, and the collapse of Hitler’s last great offensive. #ww2 #history #battleofthebulge #militaryhistory #tanks
