Sobibór – the German death factory. Nearly 180,000 people were murdered here over the course of a dozen or so months. Before the deportees reached the gas chambers, they passed neat houses, well-kept shrubs, and even flower beds. Walking down the long 240-meter corridor, they were unaware that within minutes they would be brutally murdered. Their vigilance was lulled. After the long journey, they thought only of the bowl of hot soup that one of the SS men had promised them after their bath. What history does the site of the former Sobibór extermination camp hold?
