Zugfahrt mit der Höllentalbahn - steile Schienen & Aussicht auf den Hirschsprung | Raus mit Klaus

Did you know? The Höllentalbahn (Hell Valley Railway), which runs from Freiburg im Breisgau to Donaueschingen, climbs quite steeply. On the 12-kilometer stretch between Himmelreich and Hinterzarten, the train has to overcome a gradient of 400 meters. This makes it the steepest main line in Germany. Not only this superlative, but also the many stunning views of rock formations, valleys, and dense forests delight train passengers on their journey into the Black Forest. Hiking guide Klaus also didn't want to miss the experience of traveling by train and has therefore left the hiking trail today to take the train. During the ride on the Höllentalbahn, he provides insights into the fascinating history of the railway line. A few anecdotes from the railway's past and the legendary Hirschsprung (Deer Leap) are also included! Travel back in time with hiking guide Klaus to the year 1882, when the Höllentalbahn was built. The individual sections of the line were added gradually, after the route was initially planned differently. Instead of 36 tunnels, fewer were built due to cost-cutting measures – but they are steeper! To bridge the Ravenna Gorge, the 36-meter-high Ravenna Viaduct was constructed, offering a unique view of the Höllental (Hell Valley), the Hofgut Sternen estate, and the gorge below.
