Mike Reed plays Gershwin's "Summertime" on the Hammond Organ
Been a long time since I did this old evergreen..... "Summertime" is an aria composed by George Gershwin for his 1935 opera "Porgy and Bess". The lyrics are by DuBose Heyward, the author of the novel Porgy on which the opera was based, although the song is also co-credited to Ira Gershwin . Truly a masterpiece of minor harmonies and major interplay of melodies. So let's play with the accompaniment, too. And rhythms..... and lots of drawbar magic, plus pedal fun from the original score. "Life is Good" with such fine compositions as this, from Mr. "G". Still lots of snow here, so Summertime would be quite welcome, today, 2/4/2021. 😎🌴🎹
