Una persona con autismo en la familia

Speakers: Nerea de la Sierra Soriano, psychologist on the Autismo Aragón technical team. Expert in family therapy, certified by the Association of Psychotherapy Experts, Madrid. Mª José Plumed Latorre, graduate in Pedagogy, manager of Autismo Aragón, and above all, mother of Julián, a child with autism. The term Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) refers to a broad range of conditions that affect neurodevelopment and brain function, resulting in difficulties with communication and social interaction, as well as with flexibility of thought and behavior. There is still no biological marker that allows for the identification of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and diagnosis must be made through clinical observation of certain characteristics of the individual, such as social communication, behaviors, and intense or focused interests. The family plays a crucial role in recognizing or diagnosing autism as early as possible, as it is the primary context for their child's development. It is also essential that these families have access to a space where they can receive support and guidance, and where they feel welcomed and accompanied in the face of the difficulties and barriers they may encounter. The Ibercaja Foundation, in collaboration with Autismo Aragón, is organizing this talk to help address this situation. Although there are increasingly more specialists in the treatment and detection of this disorder, the reality is that the number of cases has risen significantly in recent years, and affected families often find themselves isolated and disoriented.
