Wood Burning - Scrub Jay Bird - Pyrography tutorial

Pyrography tutorial that shows you the pyrography shading techniques to create the Scrub Jay bird wood burning art. Learn wood burning techniques to create the ruffled throat feathers, streaked belly, wing feathers, tree branch, and more. Scrub Jay is the first installment of my Backyard Bird tutorial series. This tutorial used white charcoal pencil to visually mark areas that need to be avoided. It is very important to use CHARCOAL and not colored pencil! Color pencils contain wax and oils that will char and melt under the heat of the pen tip. I like to use white charcoal because it remains easy to see while I burn. The foam fan I show and mention during the frame burning part of this tutorial is something I bought on Ebay or Amazon. It is a battery operated clip-on fan with foam blades advertised for baby strollers.
