Continuing from last time, we continued demolishing the area around the former kitchen on the first floor. The daughter and her mother handled clearing the debris and demolishing the walls and shelves, while I took on the ceiling demolition. We split up and worked in two groups. The biggest surprise this time was when we removed the partition wall. A door appeared from behind the wall! Beyond that was a hidden storage room under the stairs, accessible from the outside. The old-fashioned light bulbs and the clean earthen floor remained, making us excited, thinking, "Maybe there's some treasure hidden here?"...but unfortunately, it was empty. (laughs) Demolishing old houses always brings unexpected discoveries; it's truly never boring. Next time, we'll continue demolishing the ceiling and finally show the carpenter how to repair the beams.
