Yu-gi-oh! - The strangest successful TCG... in the world.

In a lot of my videos, I go over the general elements that create a successful tcg. Yugioh ignores almost all of it, and yet it's still one of the most successful tcgs to ever exist. Obviously the anime has a big role to play, but anime tie-in tcgs are a dime a dozen, and most have only middling success (with the odd outlier like One Piece). So what makes yugioh stand out from its TCG competitors? In a word, why is yugioh so... weird? 0:00 Intro and How to play 2:26 How to ACTUALLY play yugioh - skip if bored lol 5:12 Reason 1 - Core rules vs actual gameplay 11:40 Reason 2 - Flavourtown 15:34 Conclusion It's finally done! Between this video and the previous Hololive TCG video, I've been taking a long time to put videos out so far this year. Next few will be smaller theory videos. And I'm also still working at finishing a PV for my own game release, although the tariff environment has suddenly cranked up the difficulty. The fact that I haven't finished any of my goals from 2024 is a big part of the reason I haven't put out a goals video for 2025 - although one goal I do have is to play a smaller, indie tcg and make a video of it for the channel. In addition to all the vtuber games coming out this year! I've also been plugging away at my short fiction as a stress-reliever - I'm actually getting close enough to an end point I'm starting to get excited (latest chapter at https://wixossacademia.blogspot.com/2... ). All my other fiction only ever got to a half-way point, so actually finishing a writing project, even if it's only a short novella (Shiorin~★), still feels like an accomplishment. Hope you're all doing well coming out of the winter season - or going into it, if you're in the funny hemisphere. Enjoy the weather, and I'll see you all in the next one!
