Chirere Uchirege

A reflection upon challenges facing our parents or grandparents, particularly our mothers or grandmothers, who, having given their all in raising their children, find no appreciation in return from the very children they raised. Some grow to live their own lives and totally forget where they came from, and the hand that raised them. This reflection speaks to parents, who are found mourning and brooding over feelings of hurt and pain caused by being neglected by their off-springs and any of the people they raised and gave life. Chirere Ugochirega translates to english (direclty) as ‘Rare and let it go’. Against the age old saying “Chirere chigokurerawo”, meaning ‘Take care of it today, so that it will take care of you tomorrow’, parents are encouraged to let go and not stress over such unfortunate circumtsances, reminding them also to look up to God through it all. To us all, daughters and sons of our parents, let us remember that honouring our parents comes as God’s command. Loving and taking care of them will bring us great blessings, peace and happiness.
