Beijando o Mar e a Costa Sul de São Jorge: Nova Aliança celebrou 54 anos no Morro

The hill, home to the Fajã do Labaçal, the sea, and the southern coast of São Jorge Island, was the setting for the 54th anniversary celebration of Nova Aliança. A journey marked by resilience, persistence, and, above all, the dedication of its board of directors, musicians, and supporters. Annually characterized by Azorean voices and strings, the festival is attended by the diaspora and provides essential support to give life and continuity to this Ponta do Topo institution. The philharmonic is a home for conviviality, sharing, friendship, and generations, valuing São Jorge culture and projecting Azorean identity to the world. For some, it was their first time there; others are already familiar with the "corners of the house" and recognize the value of the work developed over the years. From emigrants returning to their roots to Portuguese residents strengthening family ties, many, on this occasion, extol the islander spirit that celebrates the union of musical and Azorean roots. António and Natália Mota are the faces of this institution, which for many years has kept its doors open and its activities constant, with much love and hard work, in the institution that once instilled in them lifelong values. Today, health permitting, the work will continue, and there is always room to welcome new musicians and volunteers, thanking them for the support so many have given over the decades. More than a philharmonic, Nova Aliança is a family. These institutions are true homes of values, teachings, and, above all, of fostering friendships between generations, which profoundly impact the personal development of all involved.
