RC Georgian Bay 1905 Lake Freighter Visits Midland, Ontario Harbour

This model Lake Freighter has a fiberglass hull. Like my other models it is not fine scale and can take rough RC handling. The design is a modified version of plans found from the 1920's and were offered as projects for Boys to build ! The hull was constructed using plank sandwich and glue. After making a full size plan I built the hull from basswood plank on frame then sealed the wood with FBG resin. I used this as a plug and then did a layup over it to make a mold. The hull sides on this model ship are vertical so I wasn't sure if the mold would release from the plug or the hull from the mold. As it turned out, the hull was released by leveraging the stern up, back and out. Dimensions: LOA 29", Beam 5.75", Draft 2.5" Depth of Hold 3.5", Interior Ballast 4 lbs. Scale is Approx. 7/8" = 6 feet or 1:82
