How to play defense in beach volleyball with an angle block. 1. Make sure your blocker is taking away the spiker's cross court or angle hit. I consider the angle block to be more of a high risk, high reward situation. This is due to the blocker taking away a massive amount of the court which is very difficult to defend. 2. As a defender there's a few strategies you could do. You could stay in your base and run to the line late in order to trick your opponent into rolling into that area. Another strategy is to switch to the line at a regular pace and be prepared for your opponent to hit a hard swing to the line. Lastly (and of course there's more), you could stay on the line from the beginning and confuse your opponent to roll cross court and as a defender you could run the shot down. 3.
