Lui-même violoniste virtuose, Bazzini composa cette pièce en 1852, dans un style clairement inspiré de Paganini. Évoquant les lutins, créatures magiques et espiègles du folklore européen, cette pièce nous emmène dans un tourbillon surnaturel de virtuosité qui exploite toutes les ressources aussi bien de l’instrument que de l’instrumentiste.
