How to join the Soya Bean Outgrowers Alliance (SOBOA) ZAS 2023 Highlights

The United Refineries Limited Soya bean Outgrower Alliance (SOBOA) is an initiative to partner with farmers in a bid to improve the availability of raw material for the plant. URL has an annual processing capacity of 72,000Metric Tonnes of soya. SOBOA through its partnership with value chain stakeholders provides support to farmers which includes soil sampling, tillage services, seed, fertilizer, chemicals and harvesting services. The support provided is a loan which is repaid in tonnage of soya beans. It is calculated by dividing the total amount provided by the agreed soya bean price per metric tonne. SOBOA benefits from discounted prices for inputs and services due to the advantage derived from economies of scale. Requirements for admission into SOBOA 1. A minimum of 10 hectares 2. Functional irrigation – centre pivot or over-head sprinklers 3. Basic farm machinery – tractor and implements 4. Security for loan – this can be negotiated on a farmer by farmer basis 5. Documented experience in growing soya beans 6. No outstanding loan with any financial institution or contractor 7.
