EL CAMINO DE LA GLORIA MATEO 17:22-27 (083)

A God Who “Loses”? 1 Imagine you hire the best lawyer in the world for an impossible case. He tells you, “Don’t worry, I have all the power; I can move mountains.” But, just before entering the courtroom, he adds, “By the way, I’m going to let them convict me, put me in jail, and execute me.” You would be perplexed. You would say, “If you have power, use it to win, not to die.” 2 That’s exactly how the disciples feel. Jesus has just said that faith moves mountains (v. 20) and then immediately says that he will be handed over and killed (v. 22). To the 21st-century mindset—obsessed with win-win situations and personal success—this makes no sense. But for the Gospel, apparent defeat is the only real victory.
