Curdi is a historic village in Goa that was submerged after the construction of the salaulim dam reservoir in the 1980s. Once a thriving settlement with farms, homes, temples, a chapel and a close-knit community, the village had to be abandoned when rising waters covered the area. Around 3,000 residents were relocated to nearby villages. What makes curdi unique is that it reappears for a short period during the summer months, usually in April and May , when the reservoirs water level drops. During this time, former residents return to visit their ancestral land, Celebrate religious festivals, and relive cherished memories.The resurfacing of old structures and pathways makes curdi a fascinating symbol of Goa's history, heritage, and they enduring bond between people and their homeland.
