Resistance, aggressive individuals, domestic violence, or unclear situations—these are the challenges of their shifts. Anita Repukat is a chief inspector and shift supervisor at the Stralsund police station. "Our shifts can sometimes be very dynamic," she says. The night shift in the Hanseatic city has just begun. And already, the chief inspector and her colleague, Marco Fittig, receive their first call via radio. An altercation among teenagers; a knife is mentioned, and a young man has been injured. The situation on the scene is tense: 20 teenagers, some of them intoxicated, are shouting and heckling. They are also heckling the officers on the scene. Several colleagues are called in and are now on duty. The image of police work has changed in the minds of many people. Police officers are no longer just crime fighters; they are often seen as the enemy. Peace and quiet are rare in their line of work. And now the two are off to their next call. The perpetrator is no stranger to the police; in 2021 alone, Stralsund police responded to 50 calls about the young man, always for noise complaints. Whether it's traffic accidents or domestic violence, the calls for the Stralsund police are always different, just like the people behind them.
