We can observe or recognize a chemical reaction by observing change in state, color, by the evolution of gas or by change in temperature. The physical state of the reactants and the products are mentioned to make a chemical reaction more informative. e.g. we use (g) for gas, (l) for liquid, (s) for solid, and (aq) for aqueous. Balanced Equation: A balanced equation is one in which the number of atoms on the reactant and product sides is equal. Physical changes and chemical changes There are two types of change in the matter: physical change and chemical change. As the names suggest, a physical change affects a substance’s physical properties, and a chemical change affects its chemical properties. Many physical changes are reversible (such as heating and cooling), whereas chemical changes are often irreversible or only reversible with an additional chemical change. Physical changes only change the appearance of a substance, not it's the chemical composition. Chemical changes cause a substance to change into an entire substance with a new chemical formula. Chemical changes are also known as chemical reactions. The “ingredients” of a reaction are called reactants, and the end results are called products. Chemical observations in a chemical reaction Types of Reaction Combination Reaction: The reaction in which two or more substances combine to form a new single substance. Exothermic Reactions: Reaction in which heat is released along with the formation of products. Endothermic Reaction: The reactions which require energy in the form of heat, light, or electricity are called an endothermic reaction.
