Can You Beat Diablo 2 with ONLY the Mercenary? (PART 1)

Diablo 2 challenges usually involve random restrictions, primarily a slew of them applied to the player. So, I figured why not take that concept as far as I could go; could you beat Diablo 2 by only relying on the Mercenary? A run in which you never attack once? All in all, it seems pretty fair to me.
