There are many different styles and techniques of training deer tracking dogs, and in this episode Jeremy has good friend Dean Muthig of Muckdog's Deer Recovery and Training Kennel on to talk about the differences and similarities between how dean trains his deer tracking dogs vs how Jeremy does it, especially as it relates to the use of interdigital glands on the hoof. Dean utilizes many actual deer hooves with a hoof shoe device that allows him to lay tracking dog training trails with the leftover gland that resides in the harvested deer hoof, while Jeremy creates drag lines with a real deer hide and different scenting clues. There are many ways to train a deer tracking dog, and as this conversation has shown, the overall theories and ideologies of these two different training styles are quite similar, but also different in many ways.
