Pee Dee Indian Tribe Community Conservation Project
The Pee Dee Indian Tribe of South Carolina is creating climate and economic solutions that support their community and culture while conserving their land and wetlands. They're building solutions that work with nature, not against it. On April 10th, 2021, the Pee Dee Indian Tribe and Dogwood Alliance held a ribbon-cutting event. This event marked the opening of the Pee Dee Indian Tribe Educational Center. This is a place where people can learn about the culture, history, and language of the Pee Dee Indian Tribe. Visitors can also appreciate the value of preserving wetland forests. This concludes the first phase of a project that will advance a regenerative economy in McColl, SC. An economy based on ecological restoration, community protection, and equitable partnerships. Our shared vision is a solution that can be replicated in other communities impacted by climate change and flooding.
