Shigen is the guardian of a portal known as the "Hell’s Gate." Prior to the events of the first game, he was magically imprisoned in a large stone for ten years by his friend Shinnosuke Kagami, who saw him as a threat to his plans for opening the Hell's Gate. Eventually breaking free, Shigen, consumed by rage and anger, became fixated on revenge against his captor.
