QUILTSIDE CHATS - Episode 2 - PAM WEEKS - April 18, 2021
Pam Weeks (AQSG Member and Binney Family Curator, New England Quilt Museum) and Carolyn Ducey (International Quilt Museum Curator of Collections) discuss the 1864 Fort Hill Ladies Sewing Circle quilt. *** It's a very rare thing--a surviving quilt made for Civil War Soldiers. It's inscribed with a strong clue that lead the research--"Fort Hill Ladies Sewing Circle" and all of the officers signed it. They were a group of women founded in the 1850's to raise money through sewing and sales, to restore one of the oldest cemeteries in the town, and they continued in their civic work for another 80 years. *** Brought to you by the American Quilt Study Group in partnership with the International Quilt Museum, with sponsorship from Quiltfolk magazine.
