Alimentos Ricos em FODMAPs: O guia definitivo para desinchar o intestino | Dr. Jean Tafarel

Do you suffer from frequent gas, bloating, abdominal distension, and discomfort shortly after eating? The problem may not be an allergy, but rather a sensitivity to a group of carbohydrates known as FODMAPs. In this video, Dr. Jean Tafarel explains in a simple and detailed way what this acronym means and how these highly fermentable foods affect those with Irritable Bowel Syndrome or SIBO. Learn about the list of the biggest villains in our daily lives (including the basis of Brazilian seasoning!), discover which foods are completely allowed, and understand why you might be fermenting with wheat because of fructans, and not gluten. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 🔵 Video Chapters: 00:00 What are FODMAPs and the meaning of these letters 00:30 How FODMAPs worsen Irritable Bowel Syndrome and SIBO 01:00 Foods high in FODMAPs that you should avoid 01:32 Fruits and vegetables with high fermentation potential 02:08 Low-FODMAP foods allowed in the restrictive phase 02:43 Hidden caution with seasoned meats and sausages 03:20 Spices and seeds allowed that don't cause gas 03:51 How long does the Low FODMAP diet last and slow reintroduction 04:22 Difference between FODMAP intolerance and raffinose intolerance 04:51 The secret of wheat: Why you ferment through fructans and not gluten ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 🔵 What you need To know: ✔ The meaning of the acronym: FODMAPs are short-chain carbohydrates (oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols) that have a very high fermentative potential because our intestines have chronic difficulty absorbing them. ✔ Impact on SIBO and IBS: In patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome or during SIBO treatment, the consumption of these carbohydrates serves as a feast for bacteria, generating abdominal pain, excess gas, and significant bloating. The diet is used to "starve the bacteria." ✔ The Big Villains (Rich): The list includes legumes (beans, peas, lentils, chickpeas, green beans), vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, beets), as well as two pillars of Brazilian seasoning: garlic and onion. For fruits, be careful with apples, pears, peaches, mangoes, watermelon, and apricots. ✔ The Allies (Poor): Consumption of fruits such as grapes, oranges, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, melon, kiwi, lemon, and star fruit is allowed. In the cereal and seed group: rice (white or brown), quinoa, cornmeal, walnuts, macadamia nuts, and pumpkin seeds. Pure coffee is also well tolerated. ✔ Trap in Processed Meats: Raw meats and eggs do not contain FODMAPs. However, marinated meats, factory-seasoned meats, or processed meats (such as sausage, salami, and mortadella) contain garlic and onion camouflaged in their composition, triggering fermentation. ✔ Allowed Spices: To replace garlic and onion, freely use olive oil, salt, basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme, turmeric, cumin, paprika, and ginger. ✔ Temporary Strategy: The Low FODMAP diet should not be followed forever. It is strictly maintained for only 4 to 6 weeks. After this period, the doctor begins a slow and gradual reintroduction of each food to surgically map which ones cause intolerance in your body. ✔ Fructans vs. Gluten: Many believe they have an intolerance or allergy to gluten, but in fact, discomfort with wheat or rye occurs due to the fermentation of fructans (a type of FODMAP), characterizing a fermentation process and not an allergic reaction. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 🔵 About Dr. Jean Tafarel: Dr. Jean Tafarel is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist in Paraná.
