This is Lucinda, a child of only 9 years old who was born with a rare condition that completely changed the course of her life. From the day she came into the world, Lucinda has never been able to walk like other children. Her legs were born fused together, preventing her from taking her first steps, running, playing, and experiencing childhood in the way most of us consider normal. But what makes her story even more impressive is something that almost no one knows. On the day of her birth, doctors believed there was no other solution. Given her condition, they suggested amputating both her legs in the first few hours of her life. But a mother sees what no one else can see. While the doctors saw a limitation, that mother saw her daughter. Afraid that Lucinda would grow up facing prejudice, rejection, and discrimination, she made a decision that would forever change the destiny of that child. With her newborn daughter in her arms, she left the hospital secretly, without telling anyone, carrying with her only the hope that one day her little girl could have a better life. Years passed, but the challenges became even greater. Lucinda's father, who was the family's main breadwinner, fell ill and passed away. From that moment on, her mother was left alone, struggling daily to care for her two daughters. Today, without their own home, living in a borrowed house, this family faces a harsh reality. But, among all the difficulties, there is something that continues to surprise those who know Lucinda. Every day, to get to school, she travels between five and six kilometers. But she doesn't walk this distance. She crawls along the ground. With the strength of her arms and knees, she faces the dust, the stones, the heat, and the fatigue to achieve what she considers to be the key to changing her life: education. While many children complain about the distance to school, Lucinda faces a path that few adults would dare to tread. And it was during our visit that we decided to ask her what her biggest dream was. Faced with such a difficult life, anyone would imagine that she would ask for surgery, a wheelchair, or even a better house for her family. But little Lucinda's answer left everyone speechless. Not even her own mother imagined hearing that. This 9-year-old girl's request has the power to deeply touch any heart. And when you discover what she asked for, you will understand why Lucinda's story is one of the most moving we have ever told.
