Demonstration Of Suggestopedia
Suggestopedia is a method that advocates a low level of student anxiety for students in order to make the learning process more efficient. This is why the “concert” that this method uses features music, particularly baroque, to help with relaxing students. It also supports a bright and comfortable classroom to reduce anxiety, even suggesting an arrangement of reclining chairs in a circle around the teacher for students. The teacher is expected to be confident and authoritative but also friendly, and the text should not be dense and/or intimidating. Obviously, I was limited in reproducing this environment for this demonstration. I tried to capture the main concepts. My student demographic was focused on young adults that are elementary level language learners, like college students taking a foreign language for the first time (like myself). The instruction in this level would be in the native language while the “script” would be in the target language, but I am not far enough into learning a foreign language that I felt I could demonstrate is well enough. So, I kept it in English for the sake of demonstrating the teaching method, but that wouldn’t be the case is the actual classroom. I also found a helpful video on YouTube that also demonstrated a Suggestopedia lesson; I will put that link below also. • Language Teaching Methods: Suggestopedia
