Riding Amtrak’s California Zephyr: The Chicago to Colorado Experience
The Amtrak California Zephyr totally lived up to its promise of being the most beautiful long-distance train in America! After spending a few hours exploring Chicago, I boarded this legendary train to head west to meet my daughter and her fiancé in San Francisco. There was so much breathtaking scenery that I couldn't bear to cut it down into just one video—so I split this relaxing journey into a 3-part series! This is Part 1. We board the train in Chicago and cruise through the vast farmlands of the Great Plains before arriving in Denver, Colorado. There, we stretch our legs to explore the beautifully remodeled Denver Union Station and downtown. Then, the real adventure begins as we start our steep climb into the Rocky Mountains, passing through 28 tunnels—including the historic 6.2-mile Moffat Tunnel! We'll pass alpine vistas on our way to Winter Park before finally descending through lush valleys into Granby, Colorado.
