Gaspar Cassadó i Moreu (Barcelona, 1887 - Madrid, 1966) is considered one of the greatest cellists of the twentieth century, as well as a composer of great talent. Educated musically in the Catalan capital under the supervision of his father, an organist, Gaspar Cassadó completed his studies in cello and composition in Paris, respectively with Pau Casals and Maurice Ravel. Cassadò's style can be considered late-Romantic: in his compositions, the melodic tradition of Romanticism and the rediscovery of ancient forms and styles coexist, with a predilection for modal language. With the Canción de Leonardo, the Catalan composer commemorates the death of the eponymous firstborn of Andrés Segovia. The theme of melancholy is here expertly treated through a cathartic path: from the vague sensation of lack and sadness, through inner pain, concluding in a hope of a religious nature. The first two stages of the journey are written in the Aeolian mode, while the last section of the piece is characterized by idiomatic and coloristic harmonies in major keys. Diego Nizzi Born in Treviglio, Diego Nizzi began studying classical guitar at the Tommaso Grossi middle school in his hometown, continuing his studies privately with Maestro Marco Monzio Compagnoni and attending masterclasses by Luigi Attademo, Frédérik Zigante, Renato Samuelli, Giulio Tampalini, Stefano Grondona and Carlo Fiore. The performer obtained in 2022 and 2024 the Academic Diplomas of 1st and 2nd level respectively in guitar under the guidance of Maestro Marco Taio at the Luca Marenzio Conservatory of Brescia with top marks, obtaining in addition to honors also the mention of publication of the three-year thesis entitled "The evolution of the guitar repertoire from the 19th century to the figure of Andrés Segovia".
