This practice is widely interpreted by anthropologists as a remnant of pre-Islamic Amazigh cultural expressions that have been re-contextualized over time within local festivities. One of the most fascinating aspects of Boujloud traditions is their regional variation. From village to village across southern Morocco, the costumes, masks, and accessories differ significantly. In Tadouart, participants enhance their appearance with Amazigh decorative elements such as handmade belts, scarves, head ornaments, and symbolic motifs that reflect local identity and heritage. These stylistic differences highlight the diversity of Amazigh cultural expression rather than a single standardized tradition. In this particular video, roughly half of the footage focuses on preparations, where young men dress up in animal skins and carefully assemble their costumes before entering the village space. Once transformed, they move toward the center of the village, where the performance begins in full interaction with the community — especially children, whom they playfully chase as part of the ritualized chaos and celebration. The Boujloud dance is the core expressive element of the ritual. It is not a choreographed performance but rather a continuous, instinctive movement that responds to rhythm, crowd energy, and environment.
