A spring hike in the mountains of Almaty, in the Trans-Ili Alatau, turned into a real Shakespearean dilemma: to pick or not to pick? We stumbled upon an incredible mushroom paradise — a huge meadow completely covered with garden entoloma. Any mushroom picker would be shocked: tons of mushrooms under your feet, all clean, firm, and without a single worm. So why did I decide to leave all this treasure untouched? Along the route, we also came across the rare St. George’s mushroom, also known as the May mushroom. In Europe, this highly prized delicacy can be sold at markets for up to 150 euros per kilogram!
