Monthey - Switzerland

Monthey is Swiss Commune in Canton of Valais, located in Chablais, at the foot of the Dents du Midi. Monthey is at the entrance to the Rhône Valley. It is known for its carnaval festival, one of the largest in Suisse Romande (French Speaking Region in Switzerland). It is about 52 km from Lausanne and 48 km from Sion. -Pont Couvert (Couvered Bridge) which you saw in the video is a remarkable structure, was built by the La Bâtiaz (Martigny) the mastery of the carpenters of that time. It was built in 1809, a year before the Valais joined the French Empire and became its 130th department, known as the Simplon. The work, entrusted to Gaspard Egger, master carpenter in Bex, began in April and was completed around November of the same year. -Église de Monthey: The first church in Monthey dates from 1707. It was surrounded by the cemetery. In poor condition and too small, it was demolished around 1850, except the bell. The current church was built in 1855.
