BRITISH RAILWAYS VINTAGE TRACTION BR Class 52 Locomotives in Preservation during the Pre-Digital Age (1988-1994) Volume BR52-01P Another feature in this newer series of Vintage Traction from the pre digital era, from the mid 1980's to the turn of the milenium, when the digital age started to put an end to analogue video... This feature is on the Preservation scene and features the Diesel Hydraulic BR Class 52 or more commonly referred to as 'Westerns', built between 1961 and 1964, either at the Swindon or at the Crewe Works. Fitted with two Maybach Engines, producing 2,700 HP and Voith North British Hydraulic Transmission. These Locomotives worked all over the Western Network from Penzance, to South Wales, The Midlands and other areas, hauling all types of freight and passenger trains. In their final years the remainder of the class were hauling farewell specials all over the Southern Country area. Fortunately a few of the class were rescued from the 'cutters' torch and were purchased for preservation. This feature covers the period from around 1988 to 1994 and the scenes were captured on The Severn Valley Railway and The West Somerset Railway during this period.
