Joan Didion, 1971
Acclaimed writer and Sacramento native Joan Didion is featured in this KCRA footage, shot in January 1971 at her home in Los Angeles. In it, she discusses her creativity and how the landscape of California informed her work throughout her life. It includes shots of Sacramento and California. Excerpts from this footage were used in the 2017 Netflix documentary "Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold" directed by her nephew Griffin Dunne. Didion was born December 5, 1934, in Sacramento and died at her home in Manhattan on December 23, 2021, at the age of 87. Note: some scenes may be silent.
