Toccatina in A flat - Christopher Glenn

It's been a couple of years since I have put any effort into composition due to a period of winding down my career and moving from the US to Europe. After this stretch filled with huge changes, I hope to become inspired by new opportunities to travel and reflections of life in new surroundings. Now somewhat settled into a new home, I finally sat down to throw some notes on the board to see what stuck, for better or worse. This composition is heavily centered on a toccata-like pattern scored for the tenor range of the organ. I love the tenor voice of the organ, especially when a robust 8' principal is involved. After introducing a recurring pattern on the manual, a sombre melody eventually enters in the pedal using a small reed. This melody is later assumed developed in the hands within a toccata-like section before winding back down to the more simple sounds of the opening phrases and pedal solo. The piece is scored for organ and is available for download on IMSLP under my composer name. I'm playing the piece using the Rotterdam Cathedral sample set on my custom Hauptwerk organ console. It is best to listen to organ recordings using high-quality headphones due to the wide dynamic range and frequencies produced by the organ. Thanks for watching.
