I Lost My Family & My Country After Coming Out

Farah came to the UK from Pakistan on a tourist visa, expecting to return home after the summer. Instead, a visit to Manchester Pride changed the course of her life. After seeing LGBTQ+ people living openly for the first time, Farah made the decision to come out to her family. What followed was a series of events that left her unable to return home and forced her to rebuild her life from scratch in a new country. In this deeply personal episode of Oral Histories, Farah reflects on growing up in a conservative Muslim family, realising she was attracted to girls as a teenager and falling in love with a classmate in Pakistan. She speaks candidly about family rejection, being forced into a marriage with a man, navigating the UK asylum system and finding support through LGBTQ+ communities in London. From discovering chosen family to learning how to live openly without fear, Farah's story is a powerful testament to resilience, identity and the search for a place where you can truly be yourself. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 🥳 Find Us On Socials TikTok:   / queer.global   Instagram:   / queer.global   LinkedIn:   / elevate-community-productions   ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 🌍 Oral Histories by Queer Global.
